The AEI Report to Industry 2005-06 provides an overview of Australian Education International’s (AEI) activities and significant achievements. Some of the highlights for AEI during 2005-06 include:

  • the Australian international education sector grew by 7 percent in 2005 from 2004;
  • the performance of the vocational and technical education sector was particularly strong;
  • AEI expanded its international presence and activities;
  • AEI hosted two major international conferences, one at ministerial level, to address future challenges to education policy and delivery in the Asia-Pacific region;
  • AEI continued working with stakeholders to improve the National Code established under the Education Services to Overseas Students (ESOS)Act 2000;
  • a Transnational Quality Strategy Framework was agreed to by Commonwealth, State and Territory ministers, which will strengthen the international reputation of Australia’s education system; and
  • AEI worked with foreign governments to ensure a predictable and open international education market for Australian providers.

AEI’s policy focus for the near and medium term is to address the issues identified at the Asia-Pacific Education Ministers’ Meeting in April 2006. In addition, AEI will continue to support the Australian international education industry to face the challenges of a maturing international market undergoing structural change.
