- BIG Skills Conference 2-5 March 2009 Sydney
The BIG Skills Conference is hosted by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, on behalf of the Australian Government.
The Conference will be forward looking and it will bring together major national and international players with an interest in skills and training to debate issues, think differently and stimulate change in the Australian tertiary sector.

- AEI’s leadership changes
Ms Fiona Buffinton, CEO announced changes to AEI's leadership team. Two new faces have joined AEI’s leadership team in a wider restructuring of the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), where AEI is part of its International Group.

- AEI International Student Data YTD July 2008
AEI has released the July 2008 statistics on international students studying in Australia on student visas. AEI’s latest data show that across all education sectors, international student enrolments in Australia have grown 18.9 per cent.

- Applications for AusLIST open
On 22 August, 2008, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, the Hon Julia Gillard MP, announced the release of AusLIST - the online directory of Australian providers and the courses they deliver outside Australia.

- Australian alumni networking event at the Australian Embassy Tokyo
AEI Japan will be holding an alumni networking event at the Australian Embassy Tokyo on Friday 19 September for alumni who have studied at Australian educational institutions. Mr Murray McLean OAM, the Ambassador to Japan will be hosting the event. Registration is now open on the AEI Japan local website.

- International school student movement in post-school education
This paper examines the movement of international students as they further their education within the Australian education system after concluding their studies in the Schools sector. These post-school pathways include higher education, vocational education and training (VET) and ‘Other’ (e.g. foundation, study abroad and other non-award courses) sectors.

- Online Education Agent Training Course
Australian Education Internatioanl (AEI) and the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMA), in consultation with Australian international education peak bodies have collaborated with International Education Services Ltd to develop an online Education Agent Training Course.

- AEI International Student Data YTD June 2008
AEI has released the June 2008 statistics on international students studying in Australia on student visas. AEI’s latest data shows that across all education sectors, international student enrolments in Australia have grown 19.3 per cent.

A student's 'study pathway' is defined as the route taken as he/she progresses through his/her education in Australia. This research paper examines and compares the study pathways of two international student cohorts over a three year period to identify recent pathway trends.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade will be conducting industry consultations around Australia over the next three months seeking input from those with an interest in Free Trade Agreement negotiations with Chile and the Gulf Co-operation Consul Countries.
