Professional Development Visa (PVD)

The Professional Development Visa (PDV), subclass 470, is a temporary residence visa. The PDV enables Australian education and training institutions to sponsor groups of professionals, managers and government officials from overseas who seek to enhance their professional/managerial skills. The PDV enables the visa holder to enter and remain in Australia for up to a maximum period of 18 months.

There are two key stages to applying for a professional development visa:

  • sponsorship approval for the education provider, and
  • visa application.

Some general conditions of the PDV include:

  • Sponsorships must be approved before visa applications can be lodged.
  • Sponsoring institutions must agree to specific conditions related to their conduct and the conduct of those entering Australia for training programs.
  • Individuals cannot apply for a PDV.

Please refer to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship’s website for the most up-to-date information about the PDV and how to apply.
