UMAP Principles of Exchange

Funding arrangements for UMAP exchanges are agreed between the home and host universities (or other accredited higher education institutions). Generally, exchange partners have a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) covering the details of the agreement between the two partner higher education institutions.

The principles that govern UMAP exchanges are:

  • students participating in UMAP undertake a period of formal study as an exchange student.
  • the exchange study period should be for a minimum of one semester and a maximum of two semesters.
  • hosting universities are required to waive tuition fees for UMAP exchange students.
  • academic credit for the study undertaken at the host university will be granted by the home university.
  • undergraduate and postgraduate students can participate in UMAP.

Universities participating in UMAP exchanges endorse the following responsibilities:

  • assist a student in obtaining the appropriate visa for their host country
  • recognise academic work completed overseas and award credit towards a student’s degree
  • work in cooperation with a UMAP institution partner to maintain reciprocity in the exchange program.
