If you are not sure that you have a visa that allows you to work in Australia, contact the Department of Immigration and Citizenship by calling 1300 364 613 (within Australia) or +61 1300 364 613 (outside Australia).

Permanent residents and citizens or those with permission to work

Assessing work or occupational qualifications

For many jobs, you may not need to have your qualifications assessed.

We do not assess work experience or qualifications for working in specific occupations. Registration, licensing or professional bodies do this. For information on how to have your qualifications assessed to work in a specific occupation see:

You may be able to get financial help to cover the cost of assessments or exams when having your overseas qualifications recognised. See:

Assessing educational qualifications

Australian State and Territory overseas qualification units can do assessments of the educational level of your post-secondary or tertiary qualification. This service is free for Australian permanent residents or citizens and may be free if you are permitted to work in Australia. They use the assessment guidelines in our Country Education Profiles Online. See:

If your qualifications are not covered by the assessment guidelines, the OQU may suggest you apply to us for an educational assessment.

We do not assess secondary school qualifications. Secondary school qualifications are normally assessed by state or territory education bodies. For contact details for secondary school education authorities see:
